Business search results now include reason codes: stable, machine-readable flags for the specific conditions behind a result, built for rules engines to branch on.
GET /searches/{id}, GET /searches, the BusinessSearch webhooks and US and international web presence responses now carry a reason_codes array, for example ["SEARCH_ADDRESS_CMRA", "ENTITY_AGE_UNDER_90D"]. It is empty when no condition holds.
Codes cover:
  • Identity: business not found, no name match, no active registration, an inactive home-state registration, entity age brackets (ENTITY_AGE_UNDER_7D up to ENTITY_AGE_UNDER_12M), TIN mismatch, and a TIN that is an SSN.
  • Address: no match or a partial match, and whether the submitted or primary address is undeliverable, a PO box, a commercial mail receiving agency (CMRA) or residential.
  • Officers: none of the submitted officers matches an officer or registered agent on file.
  • Web presence: the submitted or discovered domain is under 7 days old.
  • Credit: active or past tax liens, active UCC liens, and active or recent bankruptcies and litigation.
  • Network: the business was searched by other organizations several times recently, or has no search history in our network.
The new GET /reason_codes returns the full catalog. For each code it gives its category, Baselayer’s recommended_severity (high, medium or low) and a plain-language description. A retired code is marked deprecated, with the date and its successor_code, and still appears on results that recorded it. We will add new codes over time. No integration changes required. The field is additive.
