[Feb 15, 2025] OFAC Standalone Endpoint

We’ve released a new standalone OFAC screening endpoint:
POST https://api.baselayer.com/ofac_searches

This route allows you to perform independent OFAC checks using only:

• name: the individual or entity being screened
• similarity_threshold: optional, defaults to 0.9

It enables fast, lightweight sanctions checks without requiring a full business search.

Do you still need this if you use Business Search?

In most cases, no.
Every Business Search already includes OFAC checks by default at no additional cost. Baselayer screens:

• the business name you submit
• any officers included in the payload
• the official business information Baselayer discovers during the search

This means that for standard KYB and underwriting workflows, Business Search already covers OFAC comprehensively.

The standalone endpoint is best suited for:

• deeper due diligence beyond what was included in the original search
• screening individuals or entities not part of the business profile
• one-off checks where running a full Business Search is unnecessary

No integration changes are required, the new OFAC route is available immediately.
