These improvements are part of our ongoing work to make the Baselayer experience, from API to Console, onboarding to monitoring, more intuitive and cohesive.

We’ve deployed an updated Industry Prediction model across all Business Search and Web Presence requests.

What’s new:

  • Improved context window for AI agents
  • Expanded coverage of website discovery and scraping
  • Better extraction of industry-specific keywords

Overall we expect a 10–15% accuracy improvement across NAICS, MCC, and SIC predictions.

This upgrade requires no integration changes and is automatically applied to every Baselayer environment.

We are incredibly excited to introduced an improved version of a major Baselayer product: Portfolio Monitoring.

You can now track businesses performance in real time for:

  • Secretary of State changes
  • New litigations and bankruptcies
  • New liens filed on the business
  • Risk-relevant updates across Baselayer’s identity network
  • And many more!

Alerts are available via API, notification emails or through the dashboard.

You can now search individuals in addition to businesses.

Person Search allows you to look up a person and retrieve:

  • SSN verification
  • Liens
  • Litigation history
  • Bankruptcies
  • Other relevant public-record signals

This feature supports fraud investigations, officer verification, and underwriting workflows.

You can use POST /people, and use the returned person_id to submit requests for additional checks, or directly use POST /person_searches and include under options all the checks you would like to include as part of this person search.

If you have any questions, please contact your Baselayer representative.

West Virginia entities that have failed to file an annual report will now surface as “Not In Compliance” within Baselayer. The field status field will continue to show "Active" when applicable, mirroring the dataset of the West Virginia SoS.

The "Not in Compliance" flag presents on the SoS database when the business fails to file the annual report by 6/30 of a filing year. However, they have 3 years to file all annual filings plus late fees before the entity is administratively dissolved/terminated.

From now on, any business that fails to file or misses the deadline will automatically reflect that non-compliant status. When they do file and regain compliance, their standing will switch back to “Active” as expected.

This update improves standing accuracy and aligns with WV Secretary of State reporting.

You can now download the official filed lien document (UCC1 or UCC3) directly through the Baselayer API - no more waiting for email copies or manually tracking files. This provides a smoother, more automated workflow for lien operations and compliance teams.

Once a lien filing reaches the filed status, you can retrieve the stamped document using:

GET https://api.baselayer.com/lien_submissions/{filing_id}/filed_document

To check whether a filing is ready, continue using:

GET https://api.baselayer.com/lien_submissions/{filing_id}

and look at the filing_status field. When it changes to "filed", the PDF is available for download.

The same functionality is also available in the console: simply open the lien submission and click Download Filed Document:

This update makes it easy to automatically store lien documents in your internal systems, attach them to customer files, or maintain audit-ready records with no manual steps.

We’re excited to announce the release of our enhanced Risk Score, designed to better reflect real SMB risk patterns.

Improvements include:

  • Updated weighting across industry, website analysis, business information, and inquiry behavior
  • Inclusion of litigation and bankruptcy data into the Risk Score
  • Inclusion of liens information into the Risk Score

All Risk Ratings (A–F) and scores (0–100) now use the new model.

Once a DocketSearch or LiensSearch request is completed, Baselayer will immediately after issue a BusinessSearch.Updated webhook to reflect the updated ratings, taking into account the impact of these additional checks.

Please contact your Baselayer representative for any question.

Business Pre.Fill is now available, enabling customers to pre-populate onboarding flows with clean, structured business information while dramatically reducing manual entry.

With only the personal information of an officer, Pre.Fill automatically retrieves verified Secretary of State data to return the businesses associated with that individual. Results are returned synchronously and in milliseconds, making the product ideal for smooth, low-friction onboarding experiences.

Pre.Fill can be requested via:

GET /prefill/businesses

Passing the officer details will return a list of matching businesses along with key information, including:

  • Verified legal entity name
  • Registered officers
  • Business structure
  • Incorporation details

This reduces friction for applicants, minimizes data-entry errors, and helps risk teams focus on genuine threats instead of incomplete or inconsistent applications.

If you’re interested in enabling Pre.Fill, contact your Baselayer representative.

A new permission level - Viewer - is now available for teams.

Viewer users can:

  • Access the dashboard
  • View searches, filings, and reports
  • Review monitoring alerts

But cannot create searches, perform filings, or update configurations.
